We have several locations throughout the GTA to better serve our patients, yet our quality care is standardized and maintained across all of our locations. | A) Reaching an ACCURATE diagnosis: |
At Astra, we are committed to identifying the root cause of your fertility troubles and restoring your natural fertility potential. Treatments like IVF and IUI –while valid and necessary treatment options in selected cases—are often turned to too quickly and merely serve to bypass the core problem, instead of directly solving it.
Our primary objective is to reach an accurate diagnosis for your fertility difficulties before directing you to the most effective corrective action to restore your fertility. Limited “first line” basic fertility investigations (semen analysis, tubal patency test and ovulation check) will fail to diagnose a couple’s problem in more than one third of cases. In these cases, their diagnosis will be erroneously labelled “unexplained infertility” and they will promptly be directed to expensive treatments like IUI and IVF, without identifying and tackling their true problem. While immediately jumping to these treatment options can be successful, it is a flawed approach, as it will inevitably miss a problem that even IVF cannot treat. A common example is missing an abnormal shaped uterus (arcuate/subseptate) or dismissing a uterine fibroid as a fertility issue which can significantly cause implantation problem preventing embryo implantation and pregnancy. By focusing on making a true diagnosis, our aim is to significantly cut down on the emotional and financial strain that couples with infertility often endure.
Remember, without an accurate diagnosis, treatment is experimental. We do not accept the diagnosis of unexplained infertility easily.

| B) Minimally Invasive Reproductive Surgery: |
Astra is unique in that we are the only private fertility center in Ontario to have a fully equipped operating room suite within our facility. This unique feature of our clinic assists us in performing a completely accurate workup for our couples, including many “second line investigations”, like diagnostic office hysteroscopy and transvaginal hydrolaparoscopy , that are very important to a complete fertility workup. Our state of the art operating room suite allows us to offer a wide range of advanced surgical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures through minimally invasive gynecological surgery. This unique feature has allowed us to cut down on wait times for important surgical procedures for our couples, and is also OHIP covered. This is important because, if indicated, surgical options can help couples achieve their fertility goals in a shorter duration and often without the need to utilize drugs or expensive Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedures, like IVF and IUI.
It is through this complete and holistic workup that Astra is able to achieve one of the highest fertility success rates in Canada and North America. |
